2 tsp. Olive Oil 2 tsp. Sesame Oil, dark 1/4 Ounce Ginger 1/2 Shallot 1 Red Pepper, sweet 1 Green Onion 1/4 tsp. Crushed Red Pepper 1 Egg 2 tsp. Soy Sauce 2 Cups 4 Grain Cereal
Peel ginger and shallot.
Mince ginger and shallot together.
Slice pepper thin.
Note: This is a sweet red pepper that I found at the farmers market. You can use half of a red bell pepper if you can't find this variety.
Place oil into a pan over high heat.
When oil is hot, add ginger, shallot and pepper.
Ingredients should sizzle in the hot oil.
Cook and stir ingredients for a few seconds.
Remove pan from the heat and let the ingredients finish cooking as the pan cools.
Place pan back on the high heat.
When oil starts to sizzle again add the egg and crushed pepper.
Let the egg cook for a few seconds and then break the yolk with a wooden spoon.
Mix the egg all over the pan and into the oil and other ingredients.
Remove pan from the heat.
Let egg gently finish cooking as pan cools.
Add grains and soy sauce.
Place pan back on the heat and mix everything together.
Heat and stir ingredients for a minute or so, until grains are hot.
Place fried grains onto a plate and garnish with the green onion sliced thin.
New Taste Thinking:
Last week I had a taste for fried rice and ended up creating Guacamole Fried Rice. I am not sure how that all came about but I still had a taste for fried rice, so here it is.
You can add any number of other ingredients to this recipe either during the cooking process, like chopped mushrooms, or after like grilled chicken breast.
It is always a good idea to have a batch of this cereal in the fridge because it cuts down on the cooking time of dishes like this one.
This is also a great recipe if you are trying to eat more grains or are trying to get someone you know to eat more grains as it is so easy to make and really delicious.
